One of those days...

Yes, today was one of those days. Carl was really fussy and into everything and I was tired, really tired. Nothing was running smoothly and I was having trouble keeping it all together. I had heard this a few weeks back at my MOPS group and googled it tonight because I needed to hear it again. So I made some hot tea and sat down to read this.
Erma Bombeck wrote this for all those mothers out there and she couldn't have hit it more on the dot.

A young mother wrote Erma Bombeck: "I know you've written before about the empty-nest syndrome, that lonely period after the children are grown and gone. Right now I'm up to my eyeballs in laundry and muddy boots. The baby is teething; the boys are fighting. My husband just called and said to eat without him, and I fell off my diet. Lay it on me again, will you?"

OK. One of these days, you'll shout, "Why don't you kids grow up and act your age!" And they will.

Or, "You guys get outside and find yourselves something to do . . . and don't slam the door!" And they won't.

You'll straighten up the boys' bedroom neat and tidy: bumper stickers discarded, bedspread tucked and smooth, toys displayed on the shelves. Hangers in the closet. Animals caged. And you'll say out loud, "Now I want it to stay this way." And it will.

You'll prepare a perfect dinner with a salad that hasn't been picked to death and a cake with no finger traces in the icing, and you'll say, "Now, there's a meal for company." And you'll eat it alone.

You'll say, "I want complete privacy on the phone. No dancing around. No demolition crews. Silence! Do you hear?" And you'll have it.

No more plastic tablecloths stained with spaghetti. No more bedspreads to protect the sofa from damp bottoms. No more gates to stumble over at the top of the basement steps. No more clothespins under the sofa. No more playpens to arrange a room around.

No more anxious nights under a vaporizer tent. No more sand on the sheets or Popeye movies in the bathroom. No more iron-on patches, rubber bands for ponytails, tight boots or wet knotted shoestrings.

Imagine. A lipstick with a point on it. No baby-sitter for New Year's Eve. Washing laundry only once a week. Seeing a steak that isn't ground. Having your teeth cleaned without a baby on your lap.
No PTA meetings. No car pools. No blaring radios. No one washing her hair at 11 o'clock at night. Having your own roll of Scotch tape.Think about it.

No more Christmas presents out of toothpicks and library paste. No more sloppy oatmeal kisses. No more tooth fairy. No giggles in the dark. No knees to heal, no responsibility.Only a voice crying, "Why don't you grow up?" and the silence echoing, "I did."

I feel better now...well a little bit:)

Chicken Car??

Carl has recently started calling this car the "Chicken Car" to anyone who will listen. After he had done it a couple times I realized that a few days earlier we were playing with his bin of cars and I called this the "Cozy Coupe". Well... naturally anything with "Coupe" in the name must have something to do with chickens since the chickens live in a coop. So.... "Chicken Car" it is:)

It's Real Life

Jessica over at Farm Fresh is hosting an It's Real Life Event and today the theme is kitchen storage. I have a small kitchen and am constantly in a fight trying to keep it semi-organized and as you can see I still need LOTS of help.
P.S. I am extremely new to blogging and this is my first time participating in one of these so please be kind if I mess up:)
My cookbooks reside in this cupboard above the stove. I'm afraid to admit I still have a box of more cookbooks stored in the garage.
Under the sink where we keep our garbage and recycling. Yuck!!! Please don't look too close.

The cupboard for our everyday dishes which looks a little empty since I need to empty the dishwasher.

Our jammed packed unorganized pantry, which used to be our coat closet.

My catch-all basket on the counter which no matter how hard I try is always a mess and over-flowing!

Plastics and sippys. I got rid of tons of plastic earlier this year because I simply don't have the room.

Right now the top of our fridge is Christmas. Usually it is a mess:)

Our spice cupboard with everything all jammed in there.

Finding the Perfect Christmas Tree

This year Dan decided it would be fun to head to the mountains to find our Christmas tree. So we headed out on Friday and spent the night taking off early Saturday morning in search of the perfect tree. We had a great time and Carl really enjoyed himself.
On the hunt for the tree
Tired feet needed a snuggle from Daddy.

My adorable little guy splashing in some puddles.

Dragging our tree back to the truck.

The tree is all loaded and ready to head for home!

An afternoon with Daddy

Mom had a Dr. appt. today so daddy and Carl got to spend the afternoon together. It just so happened that the local grocery store had the Oscar Meyer Weinermobile there today (or as Carl has been calling it the hotdog truck) So dad and Carl went to check it out and stopped for hotdogs at the local drive-in on the way home. And I've been hearing all about the hotdog truck since I got home:)

Come and sit awhile

The weather today was quite a change from yesterday, it was pouring all morning. So Carl and I decided to make some cookies. I found a recipe for breakfast cookies and tweaked it a little to what I had on hand. Carl gave his approval and mom was happy because this is a semi-healthy breakfast I can give him in a pinch:)

I got that adorable Thanksgiving tablecloth at Goodwill this past summer for $1.99 and the cute little vintage coffeepot I picked up a few weeks ago for $1.50!! Gotta love the Goodwill!!
